1VERY POORLY WRITTENApr 21, 2010

I AM AN HVAC INSTRUCTOR I HAVE USED MANY TEXT BOOKS TO TEACH FROM. THIS BOOK IS, BY FAR, THE WORST I HAVE EVER SEEN. THE MISTAKES ARE VERY SERIOUS TO THE POINT WHERE THEY COULD CAUSE EQUIPMENT DAMAGE OR EVEN WORSE PERSONAL INJURY!
THE PICTURES DO NOT MATCH THE CAPTIONS IN SOME CASES. ALSO THE BOOK IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN INTRODUCTION TO HVAC, THUS THE TITLE, HOWEVER A GREAT DEAL OF THE MATERIAL IS VERY ADVANCED AND DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND EVEN FOR A JOURNEYMAN TECHNICIAN! THIS BOOK WOULD ONLY SERVE TO CONFUSE AN ENTRY LEVEL TECH.
I DEFINATELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR ANYONE

2There must be better!Nov 06, 2007

I used this book for 2 years in a junior college to get a degree in HVAC-R. Writing a technical book cannot be an easy chore, but there are sooo many errors in this book. It was as if nobody proofread it. The glossary refers you to incorrect pages and some of the larger errors could thoroughly confuse a student. The school quit using this edition once I graduated.

If you are beginning to grasp refrigeration concepts, do not read this book as it is full of missinformation that may confuse you. If you know nothing of refrigeration do not use this book as it is full of misinformation and you will never know anything about refrigeration. If you are comfortable with refrigeration concepts do not read this book as it will enrage you. Do not read this book. It will only serve to make you a worse person.

1Poor EffortApr 23, 2009

Skip this book. My school just switched over to this book and man, was that a big mistake. The layout is poor, the explanations on mechanics are oftentimes confusing, and there are too many errors to mention. A previous poster was right in assuming that no one took the time to proofread this book. It could've used a decent editor as well. A better choice of textbook is "Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology" by Whitman & Johnson.
