This single resource covers all aspects of the utilization of geothermal energy for power generation from fundamental scientific and engineering principles. The thermodynamic basis for the design of geothermal power plants is at the heart of the book and readers are clearly guided on the process of designing and analysing the key types of geothermal energy conversion systems. Its practical emphasis is enhanced by the use of case studies from real plants that increase the reader's understanding of geothermal energy conversion and provide a unique compilation of hard-to-obtain data and experience.
An important new chapter covers Environmental Impact and Abatement Technologies, including gaseous and solid emissions; water, noise and thermal pollutions; land usage; disturbance of natural hydrothermal manifestations, habitats and vegetation; minimisation of CO2 emissions and environmental impact assessment.
The book is illustrated with over 240 photographs and drawings. Nine chapters include practice problems, with solutions, which enable the book to be used as a course text. Also includes a definitive worldwide compilation of every geothermal power plant that has operated, unit by unit, plus a concise primer on the applicable thermodynamics.
* Engineering principles are at the heart of the book, with complete coverage of the thermodynamic basis for the design of geothermal power systems * Practical applications are backed up by an extensive selection of case studies that show how geothermal energy conversion systems have been designed, applied and exploited in practice * World renowned geothermal expert DiPippo has including a new chapter on Environmental Impact and Abatement Technology in this new edition | | | Product Details: | | | Author:

Great BookApr 29, 2008
By Nickolas L. Scott If you are a student who has taken or are taking an introductory thermodynamics class, this is a great book.
If you haven't had an introductory thermodynamic class this book can still be of great use, it has a basic thermodynamic overview in the back of the book that should be sufficient for someone with a science background.
You will learn the basics of geothermal power from an introductory thermodynamic approach. With case studies, geothermal well drilling overview, and environmental impact, this book is a great starting point for learning about geothermal power.
It also includes problems for working at the end of each chapter, but personally I don't think they are necessary unless you are using this book for a class.
Dr. DiPippo is the leading world authority on Geothermal Power PlantsOct 04, 2011
By Chris L. Cote Dr. Ron DiPippo is well respected as a world-renowned authority on thermodynamics and Geothermal Power Plants. The fact that he can put his vast knowledge into a comprehensive, understandable masterpiece is what makes his book outstanding!!! Dr. DiPippo has a rare gift for converting theoretical brilliance into practical solutions our world needs in order to generate renewable power.
Great Book, poor quality material usedMay 14, 2010
By Alberto Levy The contents of this book are fine for an intermedite level review of the field. They are a little bit outdated. The print, however, was very bad. My first copy had a whole chpater blank. I called the publisher to replace the book and had to provide my credit card to charge it for the new copy. Once they received the bad copy the credited the money back. The quality of the second print, however, was very bad.
